Bib & Tucker Sew-Op

Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is a 501(c)3 dedicated to cultivating skills and community for those who sew or want to sew.

Fun with Felt is an exploration of fiber arts for young children. Suitable for ages 6 months and up, this program is free to the public. Please reach out to us for dates/locations or to request a Fun with Felt program at your local library.

QUARK (Quilting Activity Resource Kit) is a kit designed and produced by Bib & Tucker Sew-Op that teaches the fundamentals of math through the principles of art. The kit contains everything needed to hand-sew one felt quilt block; an activity that focuses the mind and reinforces hand-eye coordination. QUARK (Squares & Triangles) is a great activity for 4th-6th graders. We can facilitate QUARK instruction in schools by request. Please reach out to us for more information.

Recycled Runway is a celebration of fashion, innovation, and sustainability. Leading up to the runway event, middle and high school students learn basic sewing and design concepts during a series of after school workshops. The Sew-Op brings in local designers and stylists so that participants meet real-world success stories. Students utilize repurposed clothing and materials to produce a runway-ready garment. This annual program is open to 6th-12th grade students by application. Please see our website for more information on past and upcoming workshops or reach out to us for more information.

Summer youth sewing programs can be organized by request. These programs can be catered to the needs of the school or organization. Please contact us for more information.

The Sew-Op Quilters are a multi-generational group of quilting enthusiasts who meet every Tuesday at the Avondale Public Library from 10:30am-12:30pm (except the second Tuesday of each month). These weekly meetings are free and open to the public. This group welcomes anyone interested in sewing, quilting, or fiber arts in general. All skill levels are welcome to join.

The March Quilts is a community quilt project that started in 2015. Each year, Sew-Op members choose a civil or human rights theme and facilitate sewing sessions and discussions which are hosted by numerous community partners. During these sessions, participants create quilt blocks that express personal feelings about the theme. Bib & Tucker members then stitch the blocks into quilts that are exhibited throughout the state. We facilitate sewing sessions by request. Please reach out for more information.

Sewing classes such as “How Does This Thing Work?!” (an introduction to using a sewing machine), are offered for a fee throughout Birmingham. Sew-Op facilitators also provide classes on mending and basic hand sewing. Please see our website for more information about upcoming classes.
