Arts for Expression is an interactive community arts program that enables children to engage in various modes of fine arts such as drama, painting, arts & crafts, drumming, and dance as an expressive outlet to explore inner emotions.

Arts for Expression is comprised of four components. Session rotate as follows:

  • 2nd Saturdays: “”Strokes of Joy”” (Arts & Crafts/Painting)
  • 3rd Saturdays: “”Beating Away Anxiety”” (West African Drumming & Chant)
  • 4th Saturdays: “”Moving Away from Insecurities”” (Jazz, Hip Hop, & West African

Sessions take place at the downtown YMCA Youth Center located at 2400 7th Ave N, Birmingham, Al 35203, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Additionally, we offer music therapy from a licensed music therapist. Music Therapy is a well-established allied health profession similar to occupational therapy and physical therapy. It is clinically defined by the American Music Therapy Association, Inc. (AMTA) as “”the use of music and the therapist’s professional skills to bring about a positive change in behavior.””
