Purposed Joy helps students become more proficient in emotional literacy. The program provides an intro course to emotional intelligence via terms, interventions, and strategies to help participants achieve optimum wellness. We do this with a series of Emotional Intelligence Theory based lessons followed by hands-on activities.

Over several weeks, the course will cover self-care, community , stress management, mindfulness, resilience, self-esteem, empathy and conflict resolution. Sessions will begin with a brief assessment to gauge students’ knowledge. Next, students will engage in interactive lessons to introduce terms and tools around emotional literacy. The objective is to help students better articulate their needs and their emotions. Then, to ensure that students understand the concepts discussed, each topic is accompanied by an art activity to help them process the lesson. Interventions and tools include collage, clay sculpting, painting, illustration, and creative writing. Classes are taught by Nationally Certified Counselor, Therapist, and Educator, Ms. Shekinah Joy Lee MEd, ALC, NCC.
