Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema offers a variety of educational opportunities year round, Our education programs work to foster the 21st century skills necessary to be an active citizen in our increasingly media centric society, to plant the seeds for the film and media artists of the future by offering training and networking opportunities to facilitate the creation of new film and video work and to celebrate film as an art form.

Sidewalk offers:
Book + Film Clubs – Sidewalk’s Book + Film Club unites movie and book lovers for a monthly film screening and discussion about famous films and the people who make them. Be sure to check out or Family and Teen Book + Film Clubs for film fun for the whole family!

Field Trips – Field Trips are available to tour Sidewalk’s Cinema and view a private screening of a film.

Reframe – Reframe is an in-school program where middle school students can learn filmmaking skills alongside their current curriculum.

Sidewalk Scramble – The Sidewalk Scramble is a timed filmmaking competition fueled by caffeine and competition in which teams are challenged to create a short film — from concept to completion – within a 48-hour time frame, based on themes and inspirational items provided by the creative folks at Sidewalk. Participants range from amateurs to professionals, so the results are always unexpected, inspiring, and spectacular!

Youth Board – The Sidewalk Youth Board is a group of high school students from across the Birmingham area who share a love for movies. The Youth Board writes, produces, directs, edits, and eventually screens their own short film, which will also appear in the Sidewalk Film Festival lineup. Youth Board members also get to help our programming team choose films submitted by other teen filmmakers for consideration at the festival.
