WAVE, Inc. programs span from in school and after-school programming to initiatives that are citywide. YES… PERFORMING ARTS allows kids to learn to create their own success by letting go of fear and releasing their natural self-expression. Kids gain confidence, learn to think on their feet, expand creativity, improve social skills, and become more comfortable with handling new situations and transitions in their lives. Kids learn to create and be original; thus “feeling comfortable in their own skin”. YES… Training in PERFORMING ARTS goes several steps further in life and development. When kids are regularly involved in acting and creative programs, they’re building a presence about themselves. They are acquiring leadership, presentation and communication skills that will serve them throughout their lives. YES… PERFORMING ARTS helps all types of kids, no matter what their personal style or life situation. Shy kids are given the opportunity to open up and feel more positive; at-risk or underserved kids feel a greater sense of self-worth and cultivate a better outlook on life, while gifted kids find an outlet for their creativity and energy. They all acquire a love to perform at a high level whether auditioning for a debate team, trying out for cheerleader, running for class officer or simply volunteering to read aloud in front of a group. Students participating in performing arts programs – 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement 3 times more likely to be elected to class office within their schools 4 times more likely to participate in a math and science fair 3 times more likely to win an award for school attendance Participate in youth groups nearly four times as frequently Read for pleasure nearly twice as often Perform community service more than fours times as often
